Great DM! I’d call him an ideal balance between knowing and enforcing the rules on the one hand, but ultimately subscribing to “the rule of cool” on the other hand. If you come up with something outside the box he’ll roll with it. Also, he’s very laid back and approachable. Highest recommendation. Ben (Rodeyo), StartPlaying, Roll20
I love playing with John! He is great at running the game and providing a fun and positive atmosphere. We always have a great time. He answers questions and is very patient with you. Highly recommended! Chris (Aeris), StartPlaying, Roll20
Without a DOUBT John is one of the Greatest DM’s I have ever played with💯 He is fair and balanced with the rules, yet he enjoys using the Rule of Cool so he is not inflexible or rigid. His combat settings and encounters are heavily descriptive and enthusiastic, almost like something from Anime!! Valadar, StartPlaying, Roll20
I have played multiple sessions with John and plan to continue playing multiple more. John's laid back and easy going approach has made every session enjoyable. The group can have a good time playing the game and being creative with the support of a DM who enjoys having fun. Even though we are playing online it feels like we are playing at table with old friends and are always welcoming new players to join in the good times. Chris (Dodger), StartPlaying, Roll20
John likes to give the players lots of flexibility and incorporates some very player friendly rules to allow for more creativity. Lee (Billy), StartPlaying, Roll20
John brings a long history with dnd and a extensive library to share with his players. Susan (Dililah), StartPlaying, Roll20
My name is John Moore, and I've been playing role-playing games and writing as a hobby since the 1980s. After AI claimed my last freelance writing clients in 2023, I decided to pursue something I genuinely love—leading epic, high-fantasy adventures in Dungeons & Dragons and other TTRPGs.
At first, I hesitated to charge players for gaming. After all, finding willing players for in-person games was easy... a few decades ago! But I quickly realized how expensive and complicated playing D&D has become, whether online or in-person. Costs pile up with sourcebooks, premade adventures, digital tools, AI assistance, and premium memberships for online platforms. On top of that, modern life makes it tough to maintain a consistent, long-term campaign. We all have busy schedules and bills to pay.
I wish we lived in a world where we could game endlessly without worry—if only!
I also learned that being a Dungeon Master is a lot of work. What used to come naturally in my youth now requires time, effort, and skill to create truly engaging campaigns. After exploring other online games to see what’s out there, I realized the level of dedication and talent it takes to stand out as a great DM.
After investing thousands of dollars and enduring a steep learning curve, I’ve embraced virtual tabletops. Now, I’m thrilled about the future of TTRPGs. Gaming from home while connecting with passionate players worldwide is the peak of fun and creativity—and it's only going to get better.
I follow the "rule of cool"—rules are guidelines, not rigid laws. While stats and rules have their place, sometimes it's more important to keep the game exciting. If bad rolls threaten to derail a session or result in a character's unnecessary death, tweaking the outcome can turn a grim situation into an edge-of-your-seat moment that players will remember. My goal isn't to be an adversary but to help players create an epic story together. Some of the ways I do this include:
Player Collaboration: I encourage player input on how they envision outcomes, especially during critical moments. This reinforces the collaborative storytelling aspect.
Flexible Difficulty: Instead of strict dice rolls, I sometimes make difficulty adjustments based on player creativity or in-character decisions to reward outside-the-box thinking, similar to D&D's Inspiration mechanic.
Narrative Consequences: If dice rolls are fudged, I will sometimes incorporate narrative consequences like lasting scars or future complications to help maintain tension and bring characters to the brink without experiencing outright defeat.
Epic Failures: Sometimes failed rolls can be just as memorable—I like to turn failures into dramatic, story-enhancing moments instead of game-enders.
I look forward to meeting you and adventuring across virtual realms together!
